It was a collection of moments that helped Dr. Munguia fall in love with the veterinary field and drove her to be a part of it. When she was younger, all she knew was that she wanted to do something related to healthcare. During her undergraduate career at University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, Dr. Munguia tried working with various research labs ranging from dairy nutrition to bird ecology and evolution. These experiences furthered her desire to work with animals, but it wasn’t until she started working in a small animal clinic that she knew she needed to be a part of this field. Dr. Munguia was later accepted to veterinary school, and it was one of the best decisions she’s ever made. Being able to work with animals, people, and medicine were always a big goal for her, and she so thankful this field has allowed all of those things to happen.
Her special interests in medicine is Internal Medicine, Surgery, Emergency Medicine, and Critical Care. Dr. Munguia finds client communication and education is the most fulfilling part of her job. Pet owners are often frustrated because a family member is not feeling well and don’t know what to do. Being able to help people and animals through difficult times makes her job very fulfilling. As soon as she signed my contract she claims to have felt like a part of the team. During her breaks, she was able to visit and shadow the team, and she cannot wait to grow with the Animal Kindness team, and bond with the staff. The best part about being a veterinarian is she likes her role as an educator and her contribution to the human-animal bond. A tip she’d give owners is to always play with your animals’ feet, ears, and mouth in order to get them being comfortable with you touching those areas can be crucial to being able to apply at-home treatments later.
In her free time, she enjoys being very outdoorsy. She looks forward to going hiking, camping, rock climbing, and running. Her favorite animal are pigs for their personalities. She often collect piggy banks from her travels. Back at home, she lives with her husband who is her high school sweethearts from Basic Academy here in Henderson, NV. He is her biggest cheerleader, and she’s not sure she could’ve survived veterinary school without him. Clementine is our female chiweenie and was the first pet they adopted together, she is her adventure buddy. In her youth she was able to run 10Ks, enjoyed hiking, kayaking, and camping. As she starts to age, she is more of a long walk type of gal, but still can’t resist jumping through rocks and running through the grass. Lastly, they adopted our old lady cat, Rinnegan, prior to the start of veterinary school.
